What PIP is, in plain terms
Washington law (RCW 48.22.085) requires every auto insurer to offer Personal Injury Protection on each new and renewed policy. The minimum medical benefit is $10,000 per person, and you can ask for higher limits.
You only lack PIP if you rejected it in writing. If your insurer cannot produce a signed rejection, you have the minimum coverage under Washington law, whatever you were told when you bought the policy.
PIP pays for reasonable and necessary care from the crash, including chiropractic care, and it pays regardless of fault. You generally have up to three years from the accident to use the benefit.
